Episode 76: The Coronavirus Impact on Financial Markets.

This week, the Joel, Brett and Louis return to the podcast with a commentary on next year’s US election. Joel discusses the recent and historical impact that virus outbreaks have on the share economy and what position we should take to protect our holdings.  Brett shares insight on incentives in owning and investing in commercial property vs residential real estate. Louis expands on how we can maximise chances of achieving our very big goals.

The podcast begins with a discussion around next year’s U.S election. Michael Bloomberg, the 11th richest man in the world with a net worth of $50 billion is now in the race against Donald Trump. We discuss the economic factors around election and re-election of presidents and where the U.S is gearing towards next years.

  • Coronavirus and the share market: Joel brings with him historical data from outbreaks like SARS, Bird Flu, Swine Flu, Polio, Ebola and Zika to forecast what will happen in the markets as a result of the Coronavirus. This data covers impact of these outbreaks over 12 months and Joel gives us his recommendation on what we should do with our share market position during a viral outbreak. The round table also briefly discusses the share price movement of Tesla which recorded a 50% increase followed by a 25% decrease in the past week.
  • Commercial Real Estate: Brett discusses the potential risks and rewards in investing in commercial real estate and discusses the current trends that we are seeing in this market. He dissects Australian geographical data of the commercial real estate market and provides us with real information on what the market is currently expecting for potential investors.
  • Reaching your BIG goals: As an active contributor to the United Global Capital blog posts, Louis expands on his recent topic of  pathways to success. He speaks about the mindset and behavior that successful people have that helps reach their big life goals and gives us real advice on what we can  integrate in our day to day lives.
